ABOUT OUR NAME:

Reporters used the symbol -30- at the end of their typewritten copy to indicate to editors that they have reached the last word. It was adapted by the pencil press from teletype operators who used the symbol to indicate the end of a transmission.

IN THIS ISSUE:

In this issue of -30-, our feature story looks at the best way to step up to the plate and succeed as a sports writer, featuring interviews with sports reporters Dan Pompei and Mark Herrmann. Corene Johnson will take us back to Swampoodle Road to see how her ailing cat may have led to a new freelance assignment. Finally, we'll be introduced to "Melanie's Laws" as Melanie Hauser presents a list of inevitable writer distractions that would make even Mr. Murphy jealous.
